The amount of Data used by MCe and other apps will vary greatly depending on your activity and how much data you are keeping up to date on your local device. For example, having 100's of WO that are being checked will take more bandwidth than a handful. Uploading/Downloading a few images however will make that amount look like almost nothing. Uploading/Downloading videos will make the image up/downloading look like almost nothing.
As a result, all of the following are very general estimates. It is reasonable to assume they could range from 1/4 the minimum to 4x the maximum in any given session, and the maximum could be 10-100xs if you are doing things that pass a lot more data. However, as a good starting point, these values come from looking at several different sources and our own testing.
| Purpose | MB/Hour | Hrs per GB |
| Chrome, one default blank tab | 0.2 | 5000 (7 months) |
| Shift, one default blank tab | 0.7 | 1430 (2 months) |
| MCe, one tab, no audio/video light use | 20 | 48 (more than 1 week work) |
| MCe, one tab, no audio/video, moderately heavy use | 120 | 8 |
| MCe, one tab, no audio/video GIS | too variable to estimate | |
| Whatsapp VoiP (voice only) | 30-60 | 33-17 |
| Whatsapp, Teams, Zoom (video call) | 1,000-2,000 | 1-0.5 |
| Maps/driving | 5-10 | 200-100 |
| eMailing, no attachments | 3 | 300 |
| General web surfing | 620 | 16 |
| YouTube 144p | 30-90 | |
| YouTube 480p | 480-660 | 2 |
| Netflix SD, Standard definition | 1,000 | 1 |
| Purpose | GB/Hour | Minutes per GB |
| YouTube 1080p | 2.5-4.1 | 24-15 |
| YouTube 4K | 5.5-23 | 11-3 |
| YouTube 8K | up to 22.5 | 3 |
| Netflix HD | 3 | 20 |
| Netflix UHD, 4K | 7 | 9 |
And yes, I note that 8K YouTube takes less than the max that 4K does. But according to the only test we found, this is the reality. As we find more data sources we'll update it.
Look at YOUR live data
To get a better feel for how much using MCe (or any other app) is using in your exact environment, in Windows, go to the Task manager (Ctrl+Shift+ESC), go to "App History", Delete the usage history, then work for a day in a typical way and see what your usage is like, even better record the data used today and then at the same time tomorrow or better yet after a week.
For Android it may vary from device to device/version/manufacturer, but generally: go to Settings > Connections or Network & Internet > Data usage or Data usage & billing > WiFi data usage then scroll down to see what the various apps are using. You may not be able to reset it, but record the data used today and then at the same time tomorrow or better after a week.
For iPhone follow a similar process Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), where you will find installed apps listed with their data usage since the last reset.
If you use your browser for more than just MCe the usage will be for all uses of that browser. But if you are using our Android or iPhone app, it will look at just MCe usage.
