Overview
In an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)/Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), repair centers are typically used to manage the repair and maintenance of equipment that cannot be repaired on-site, they are also used to refer to the place out of which the repairs are handled, so for example a company in 6 cities might have 1 repair center in each city, alternately, a company may split by the type of equipment, having one repair center for computers and computer related equipment and another for manufacturing equipment. Repair centers are locations where equipment can be sent for repairs or maintenance work that requires specialized equipment, skills, or knowledge that is not available in-house.
In MCe specifically
Repair Centers are used to control access, rights and UI.
Your Repair Center(s) affect what assets you can see in the Service Requester.
You have "your" Repair Center, then you have a list of repair centers that you have access to (if this list is blank, then you can see them all.)
In EAM/CMMS generally
Repair centers can be used in several ways within an EAM/CMMS:
- Work Order Management: Repair centers can be used to manage work orders by assigning them to the appropriate repair center based on the type of work required and the location of the equipment. This helps to ensure that repair work is performed efficiently and that equipment downtime is minimized.
- Preventive Maintenance: Repair centers can be used to manage preventive maintenance activities for equipment that requires specialized maintenance work. Preventive maintenance schedules can be set up for each repair center, and equipment can be sent to the appropriate repair center for maintenance work as needed.
- Inventory Management: Repair centers can be used to manage inventory by assigning inventory items to specific repair centers and tracking inventory levels for each repair center. This helps to ensure that inventory items are available when needed for repair work and that inventory levels are optimized.
- Cost Management: Repair centers can be used to manage repair costs by tracking the costs associated with each repair center, including labor costs, material costs, and transportation costs. This helps to ensure that repair work is performed at the lowest possible cost. Overall, repair centers are an important tool within an EAM/CMMS for managing the repair and maintenance of equipment that cannot be repaired on-site. By assigning work orders and preventive maintenance activities to the appropriate repair center, organizations can ensure that repair work is performed efficiently and that equipment downtime is minimized. Customer management: Repair centers can be used when you have several large customers to have each customer in their own repair center. This gives you an easy way to restrict their access to just their equipment, and if there are dedicated resources, you can assign them to just the specific repair center(s) that they are assigned to.
